At least two people died and three others were seriously injured after a truck crashed into a house in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday.
At around 9:30 a.m. the truck was going down the Nhi Thien Duong Bridge in District 8 when its brakes allegedly failed.
The truck careened out of control down the bridge and plunged into the house, which served as a motorbike shop, on Tung Thien Vuong Street.
Some people in the house were hit and pinned under the truck.
The house collapsed and concrete fell on the truck. A number of motorbikes in the shop were also crushed.
The accident caused disorder in the area. Police arrived to rescue the victims and try to ease the congestion on the bridge.
Rescuers pulled two dead bodies from the debris. The bodies were then identified as of Bui Thi Phuoc, a 68-year-old woman who owned the house, and La Han Luu, a 48-year-old man who was a customer of the shop.
Three other people, one of whom a 34-year-old woman, were seriously injured.
Ho Van Truc, the 26-year-old driver of the truck, managed to escape the crash almost unscathed.
He has been taken to a police station for questioning.
