Police in Quang Ninh Province detained a local truck driver Tuesday after a head-on collision with a passenger bus that injured 25 people, including the two drivers, that morning.

Nguyen Van Vy, 36, will be investigated for "flouting traffic safety regulations."

The incident occurred in Dai Yen Ward, Ha Long Town, Quang Ninh at around 4 a.m. when Vy was driving his truck from Hanoi to Cam Pha Town, which neighbors Ha Long, and crashed into the 16-seat passenger bus on the opposite side of the road.

Fortunately, no one was killed.

The Quang Ninh Health Department said nine of the 25 injured suffered severe injuries.

According to a Lao Dong (Labor) report, six among the nine seriously injured had thigh bone fractures, two had chest injuries and one had brain trauma.

They were treated at Bai Chay General Hospital in Ha Long and Uong Bi Vietnam-Sweden Hospital.

Le Quang Thinh, 28, a bus driver in Quang Ninh, said his vehicle was at normal speed and he was conscious when driving.

"Suddenly, the truck on the opposite side encroached my road," Thinh said.
