A court in north-central Vietnam has handed down jail terms of between 42 months and ten years to three people caught trying to send two girls to China to work as sex workers last year.

Truong Thi Phuong, 29, was sentenced to ten years imprisonment by the A Luoi District People's Court in Thua Thien Hue Province after a trial held Friday.

Bo Nuoch Vut, 24, received a jail term of seven years and her husband, Ho Xuan Tinh, was sentenced to three years. The trio was convicted of "human trafficking."

Vut used to be a sex worker operating in the Hekou Autonomous County in China's Yunnan Province. She met Phuong there and agreed to find women from Vietnam to supply to the prostitution rings there.

On October 7 in 2010, the trio came to a house in A Luoi District and lured Ho Thi Tre and Ho Thi Huc, both 18, by promising them jobs at a clothes shop in Thua Thien Hue Province's Hue Town or Nghe An Province.

A day later, the trio took two girls straight to Hanoi on the way to Yunnan where they were detained by Hoang Mai District police.
