News website VnExpress quoted Nguyen Xuan Tan, deputy head of the capital city’s traffic department, as saying on Thursday that after the removal, the area of the median strip will become a path connecting Trung Hoa Tunnel and Nguyen Chi Thanh – Lang flyover.
“For the sake of development, [we] have to accept eliminating the inappropriate thing,” Tan said.
Tran Duy Hung and Nguyen Chi Thanh streets have been considered as Hanoi’s most beautiful roads since they were inaugurated 10 years ago thanks to their median strips with grasses, trees and flowers planted inside.
Part of Tran Duy Hung Street’s median strip was removed to make a leading path to Nguyen Chi Thanh – Lang flyover.
The removal work almost completed on a 200-meter-long section of the median strip starting from the entrance of Trung Hoa Tunnel as of December 18, 2015
The removal work is implemented during night when there is almost no traffic.
Workers pour sand on part of the median where all trees and grasses have been cleared to make the leading path to Trung Hoa Tunnel.
Construction on Trung Hoa Tunnel is ongoing. The tunnel is expected to open to traffic on December 31, six months ahead of schedule.
