Three members of a family were killed in an unusual railway accident in the northern province of Ha Nam on Friday.
Nguyen Quyet Tien, 26, his 55-year-old mother Hoang Thi Ngan and his 59-year-old uncle Hoang Van Hung were passengers in a 29-seat minibus heading for Tien's house in Thai Binh Province, after having attended an engagement ceremony at the house of Tien's bride-to-be in Bac Giang Province.
When the vehicle arrived at Binh My Town in Ha Nam Province, it pulled over to the side of a road running parallel with a railway, so that the three family members could relieve themselves.
Afterwards, they crossed the train tracks to return to their transport. They did not notice a train coming and were struck by it at around 10:30 a.m.
The three victims were hurled into a drainage ditch and died instantaneously.
The same day, a 16-seat minibus was hit by a train in Hanoi's Dong Anh Town, killing the driver and seriously injuring five passengers.
Police said the driver did not notice the train while crossing the railway.
