Police in the central province of Nghe An said Tuesday a traffic violator has been taken into custody after attacking and injuring an officer.
Nguyen Van Hoa, 30, of Quynh Luu District now faces charges of “resisting officers on public duty,” Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reported.
On Saturday afternoon, the third day of the Lunar New Year, a team of five traffic officers in Quynh Luu spotted two men recklessly riding a speeding motorbike with no license plate on National Highway 1A.
After being stopped, the pair failed to produce papers of the motorbike.
When the officers were making a written report on the case, Hoa, one of the two men, suddenly pulled out an iron tube hidden in the bike's underseat storage and attacked the officers.
Major Nguyen Trong Phuc, 55, was hit on the forehead and injured.
Other officers arrested Hoa immediately.
Phuc was hospitalized and had five stitches.
Police said Hoa was suspected of drunk driving.
