Ho Chi Minh City police have suspended a traffic officer who was filmed assaulting a car driver on the street.
Lieutenant Vo Nguyen Minh Khoa, 25, will have to submit a report on the case, police said.
The incident occurred at around 7:20 a.m. last Saturday on the Hanoi Highway near the popular theme park Suoi Tien. It was filmed and the video emerged on social media soon later.
According to Khoa, he had been sent to a nearby traffic accident and was returning to a checkpoint when he saw the car driver changing lane without signaling.
After being pulled over, the driver attempted to keep driving before being stopped by several people there.
The driver produced his driving license. However, he then managed to snatch it back from the officer after several attempts.
Khoa apparently lost his temper and hit the driver before leaving without filing the driver’s violation, he said.
Police are looking for the driver and the one who filmed the incident.
