A traffic police officer in the central region's Nghe An Province died Thursday after sustaining serious head injuries while chasing two traffic violators.
Ngo Anh Tai, 20, succumbed to his injuries at the local hospital.
Tai was on his motorbike chasing another one that was driving carelessly, carrying two people without the mandatory crash helmets.
He'd chased the bike for around two kilometers when he hit a vehicle transporting wood on the street. The vehicle has been stopped by the police, but no further details have been released.
Tai had been working for the police department of Vinh, the capital of Nghe An, for a month.
Crash helmets are mandatory for all motorbike riders in Vietnam since December 2007.
