A mechanic at a Toyota showroom in Hanoi was having some fun inside a customer's car.
He turned on the air conditioner, ate his lunch, tried on a pair of sunglasses that was lying inside, and stole some money.
But little did he realize there was a camera inside that was filming his little caper. The owner promptly put the clip online and the mechanic is now looking for a new job.
It happened August 17 at the Toyota Lang Ha Company in Hanoi.
The mechanic, identified only as D, was in charge of driving customers' cars in and out of the servicing area.
The car in question was a Toyota Venza, owned by a person who wished to be known only as H, who had left it there to fix some scratches. When H checked his camera after getting the car back, it showed D eating inside, trying on the sunglasses, and, after eating, scouring for something, and pocketing one of four VND50,000 (US$2.4) notes H had left in the car.
Hoang Van Hieu, director of Toyota Lang Ha, confirmed the incident and identified the culprit, Lao Dong newspaper said.
A company representative visited H's house to apologize, he said.
D worked for the company since January 2010, news website Dan Tri reported.
He admitted to his wrongdoing and claimed he was searching for a toothpick after eating, it said. He said when he saw the money he stole some to buy gas for his motorbike, it added.
The company said Saturday it had dismissed the mechanic and discussed measures to prevent a repeat of such incidents.
