Police in central Vietnam on Wednesday identified the sellers of the toys suspected of sending 50 local students to hospital the day before.
Nguyen Bich Thuy, 45, and her husband, Tran Van Bao, 42, admitted that they sold the toys, including the questionable glass bottles which contained a colored liquid, to the students of Tien Thanh No.1 Elementary School in Binh Thuan Province.
Fifty students of Tien Thanh school were hospitalized with headaches, light fevers, and vomiting, allegedly after inhaling gas emitting from such bottles when they broke.
The couple claimed to have made the toys on their own, using chemical substances with unclear origins, and sold them to children in and around Phan Thiet Town.
Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reported that local authorities have confiscated nearly 100 toys containing liquid and sent them to Ho Chi Minh City for tests.
All the hospitalized students have been discharged as of Wednesday, Dr. Phan Ngoc Hung, director of An Phuoc General Hospital, said.
Police are investigating.
