A 44-year-old man from northern Vietnam died in the resort island Phu Quoc on Friday after his water scooter collided with a tourism boat.
Nguyen Thanh Hung was speeding out when the tourism boat was sailing back to shore. He failed to steer away and hit the cruiser head-on.
Hung and his friend sitting behind fell into the sea and staff members of the resort which rented him the scooter rescued him.
They were conscious at first, but Hung started to feel tired and vomit ten minutes later.
He was rushed to a hospital five kilometers away but doctors declared him dead.
His family asked to fly his body home in Bac Ninh Province the same day, saying they will take care of everything and will not file complaints.
The resort requires water scooters to be driven by one of its qualified guides. But Hung wanted to drive on his own and he had reportedly signed an agreement to take full responsibility for any consequences.
