A tourism boat sank Saturday while anchored off the coast of Nha Trang, one of the country's most popular beach destinations.
There was no one aboard the boat when it sank, but the accident is being investigated, local police said.
The boat, named Hai Yen, sank at around 2 a.m., news website VietNamNet said.
It was then around 100 meters from Cau Da Wharf in Khanh Hoa Province.
Police said that the boat had just returned from a sightseeing tour around Nha Trang Bay on Friday with nearly 40 tourists aboard.
Thai Huy Can, the boat owner, had hired people to fish and carry it away for repairs.
The boat was registered to carry 45 people and its registration has not expired yet, investigators said.
Earlier in February, a boat carrying foreign tourists sank near an island in Ha Long Bay in the northern province of Quang Ninh, killing 12 people.
