A three-year-old girl who was kidnapped by her nanny for a VND100 million (US$4,700) ransom has been rescued, according to Ho Chi Minh City police.
Following a raid in a hotel in Binh Tan District on Thursday morning, police arrested Nguyen Thi Loan, 42, and rescued Nguyen Thai Boi San, who was abducted by Loan a day earlier.
Loan, 42, worked at San’s house as a maid and nanny.
When San’s mother Nguyen Thi Thu Huong arrived home from work on Wednesday evening, she found out both Loan and San had disappeared.
Huong called Loan and was told that her daughter had been taken to Binh Duong Province, outside Ho Chi Minh City. Loan demanded VND100 million.
Huong reported to the police, who managed to locate Loan and the child.
Loan told the police she needed the money to pay her medical bills and debts.
