Market management officials in Hanoi on Wednesday said they have found three tons of undocumented chicken that they suspect had been brought in from China, local newswire Vietnamnet reported.
Le Manh Hung, deputy head of Market Management Team No.13, said the poultry, part of which had died, was confiscated from a car driven by Nguyen Van Quang, 27, on Tuesday.
Quang from the northern province of Quang Ninh said he had been hired by a man named Vien to transport the chickens from the province's Mong Cai Town to Hanoi's Dan Phuong District.
On Wednesday the market management team in cooperation with related agencies destroyed all the chickens, Vietnamnet said.
Further investigation is ongoing.
According to the market watchdog, they'd previously found another car driven by Tuong Duong Thang, carrying nearly 1.8 tons of Chinese sweets from the northern province of Bac Ninh to Hanoi.
The sweets didn't carry necessary documents, including certifications of their quality, the team said, adding that they are looking into this case as well.
