Three killed in rake collapse at northern coal mining site

Three people were killed on the spot when a complex of rakes collapsed at a coal mining site in the northern province of Quang Ninh Friday.


Three others were injured.


Initial information is that the the accident took place when six people were collecting coal at the site under the management of Coc Sau Coal Joint-stock Company which belongs to the state-owned Vietnam Coal and Minerals Group (TKV).


All the casualties are said to be locals, but is is not known whether they were collecting the coal with or without permission.


So far police have identified two victims, but have not released further information.


Previously, at around 6.30 a.m. Pham Van Chuyen, 40, a worker of the Hon Gai Coal Company, also under TKV, was killed by a falling stone as he was clearing up stones at another mining site.
