The Ministry of Public Security's drug crimes department (C47) Monday announced that they have arrested three Lao men for trafficking 20 kilograms drugs and 12,000 synthetic drug tablets into Vietnam.
Lee Chia Neng, 34, Ly Chue Sor, 38, and Boun Miher Khamtoong, 23, were caught carrying the drugs in a Lao-licensed car heading to Tan Lac District in the northern province of Hoa Binh on Saturday.
They hid the drugs in the car's fuel tank and under the seats, police said, adding they are investigating the case further.
Vietnam has some of the world's toughest drug laws. Those convicted of smuggling more than 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kilograms of meth can face the death penalty.
