Three people are dead and one was injured after an ambulance car plunged off a cliff in the mountainous province of Lao Cai Sunday.
The ambulance car, which belonged to Bat Xat District Medical Center, plunged off the cliff in A Lu Commune at around 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The car was transporting vaccine kits from the center to remote communes in Lao Cai.
Nguyen Co Dinh, the 20-year-old driver, Ly Truy Sa, 50, and his 16-year-old daughter Ly Gio Mo of Ha Nhi ethnic minority community died on the spot.
Vu Dinh Thuy, a 43-year-old doctor of the Bat Xat District Medical Center, was injured.
Thuy said the car had just hit the road after finishing work at a commune medical center when Sa and his daughter Gio waved for a ride.
Gio, who was suffering from headache and vomiting, asked to be taken to a hospital.
When the car plunged off the cliff, Thuy was thrown out of the car and passed out.
When he woke up, he crawled up to the road, and border soldiers showed up and gave him first aid.
Thuy was rushed to hospital for treatment of his slight injuries and soon recovered.
Rescuers towed the damaged car from the abyss and pulled the dead bodies out.
Local police are still investigating the accident. Tuoi Tre newspaper quoted a source as saying the car was going downhill when it suddenly hit an obstacle, and the driver lost control of the vehicle.
