Lightening struck a group of six kids in the northern province of Lao Cai while they took shelter under a tree during Saturday’s tropical depression.

Three kids in the group, all of whom were younger than 15, were killed immediately. The rest suffered severe burns.

The six kids were buffalo herders leading their animals home from the field on Saturday afternoon while heavy rains and strong winds sent them scrambling for shelter.

According to provincial authorities, 146 houses in the province's 9 mountainous districts were threatened by landslides caused in the typhoon Rammasun.
