Thieves fatally stabbed a security guard to rob a transaction office of the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank) in Hanoi early Saturday, Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper reported.
At around 5 a.m., residents found the body of Nguyen Tien Van, the 48-year-old security guard of Agribank's transaction office in Thanh Oai District, on the bed of the guarding room.
Van, who is also a police officer of Binh Minh Commune, died from multiple injuries.
According to police, the thieves had used a butane torch to cut open the roller door of the transaction office's building. Authorities have yet to calculate how much money was stolen last night.
A guard dog was found in a deep sleep near the building's gate; police say it must have been drugged.
Police said the thieves may have killed Van in the small guarding room near the entrance to the transaction office before breaking into the building.
Van's family reported to police that his motorbike was also stolen.
Investigations are ongoing.
