Soon after robbing a man of his motorbike with US$147,000 inside, a 19-year-old was arrested for a traffic violation while driving the stolen bike in Ho Chi Minh City on October 30.

Nguyen Ngoc Anh was caught driving an Attila without a helmet in Binh Tan District's Binh Tri Dong B Ward, by two traffic officers on Tuesday night, police said.

When the police attempted to pull him over, Anh refused and sped up. The officers gave chase and managed to force him to stop off the street.

Anh then tried to run away on foot, but was soon apprehended.

The young suspect later told police that earlier that day a man known as Cong asked him to participate in a robbery together with four other men.

On two motorbikes, they attacked Vong Cam Thanh, 50, when the latter was driving his motorbike in Binh Tri Dong B.

Three culprits riding on one bike used a taser on Thanh, who left his bike and ran away in shock, police said.

Anh took over the bike and was fleeing the scene when he was caught for the traffic violation.

According to police, they are investigating the case and are searching for four other suspects.
