A thermo power company in northern Vietnam has been caught dumping a large amount of waste oil into a local river, environment police said on November 2.

Hai Phong Thermo Power JSC in Hai Phong was on November 1 found discharging untreated waste oil into the Bach Dang River through three pumps, each with a capacity of 2,160 cubic meters per day.

The dumping was discovered after police found seven oil tanks left outside the factory, before the waste oil is pumped into the river.

Environment inspectors from the Ministry of Public Security have taken oil samples for testing.
