Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department said on November 3 that they found the illegal drug methamphetamine in the luggage of a Thai passenger at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport five days earlier.

Preyanooch Phuttharaksa, a 22 year-old student who had just got off a plane from Doha to HCMC on October 29, was seized after customs officers discovered three packs of white solid substances at the bottom of her suitcase.

Subsequent test showed the packs contained methamphetamine, weighing around 3.1 kilograms.

The passenger was later handed over to Vietnamese narcotics police for investigation.

Methamphetamine (commonly referred to as "crystal meth," "meth," "crystal" or "ice") is regularly smuggled into Vietnam from the Golden Triangle both by road and plane, according to police.
