A 10th grader in the southern province of Tien Giang was arrested Saturday after she stabbed and killed a schoolmate.
Tran Thi Cam Thu, 15, is facing charges of deliberately causing injuries that resulted in death.
Thu had argued with another 10th-grader, Le Thi Thu Thao, during break-time and stabbed Thao's thigh with a clasp knife. The latter was killed on the way to the hospital because she lost too much blood.
Also on Saturday, a high school in the northern province of Bac Ninh announced it was suspending four girls for a year after they beat another girl and cut her shirt with a razor blade. Local police are looking into the matter.
One of the suspended girls recently received another suspension for her involvement in another girl fight.
School violence has been rising across Vietnam, especially among girls. Many of their fights wind up on the Internet.
Vietnam authorities on Saturday initiated a painting campaign for children ages six to 15 years old to prevent violence among students, Tuoi Tre reported.
The campaign will last between Nov 15, 2011, and Feb 2, 2012.
Winning paintings will be exhibited in Hanoi in March.
