An 18-year-old student fell to death at a university in Hai Phong Monday as he was leaning against an elevator door on the sixth floor and it opened without the car inside.
Schoolmates of the victim, Dao Yen Thanh, said the door opened and he fell inside while the elevator box was still on some upper floor.
Thanh was rushed to hospital but died six hours later that night.
Managers at the Vietnam Maritime University, where the accident happened, said the elevator was among those put in use in September after the university built a new block.
The school has cut power to the elevators and sent people to look into the problem.
It’s not clear if there is any lawsuit coming in.
