Authorities in a southern Vietnam province are considering dismissing a tax official because he allegedly had a massage parlor give him free services and pay fortune-tellers when he consulted them.
Pham Minh Quang, a senior taxation official and a Communist Party member in southernmost province of Ca Mau visited the massage parlor of a local hospitality company many times between September 2006 and May this year.
Many of the visits were made with no payment, according to investigations by the Ca Mau Province Party unit which was launched after tip-offs from the shop owner.
There was one time the official brought two friends also to enjoy free massages after which he asked the company director Huynh Thanh Trieu to tip the masseuses VND400,000.
Quang also asked Trieu to take his family members to fortune-tellers several times and pay for the service.
Pham Bach Dang, secretary of the Ca Mau Town Party unit of the province, said Quang has stirred up public resentment and violated several regulations as a Party member, news website VnExpress reported.
Dang said the tax official will receive further punishment for his wrongdoings as a Party member.
