Vietnam transport ministry's inspectorate has fined a Taiwanese VND15 million (US$714) for attempting to open an emergency exit during a Vietnam Airlines flight.

Chuang Wen, 81, previously told local authorities that he mistook the exit for the restroom door on the flight from Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, to Ho Chi Minh City on November 19.

The accident happened one hour after the plane took off.

The man was then stopped by another passenger before being asked to return to his seat. He was put under close crew observation until the plane arrived in HCMC.
