Taiwanese charity lends a hand to poor kids in HCMC

Taiwanese charity Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzuchi Foundation Sunday donated VND260 million (US$12,500) to 381 students from very poor families in Ho Chi Minh City's District 9.

Each received VND700,000, a bag, a box of vegetarian instant noodles, a box of cakes, a pencil case, a tube of toothpaste, and a toothbrush.

Speaking at the event, Doan Thi Kim Anh, vice chairwoman of the district's Mass Mobilization Commission, thanked the charity and exhorted the students to overcome their difficult situation and their parents to create the best possible conditions for them to go to school.

The foundation provides assistance in the areas of healthcare, education, and disaster relief.
