Border guards in the northern province of Lai Chau said on Sunday that they had arrested two people for allegedly selling a newborn to a Chinese man, Vietnam News Agency reported
The victim, Vang Do Du, who was born 15 days before being sold, was the son of one of the suspects, Vang Ca Du, 45.
Investigators said that Du and Phan Mo Cho, 25, sold the baby to a Chinese man, whose identity remains unknown, for under VND20 million (US$931) on January 13.
The duo said that the sale was assisted by Vang Hu Xa, 30.
All of the Vietnamese suspects live in Muong Te District, which borders China's Yunnan Province.
Lai Chau's border guard headquarters have ordered its agencies to continue investigating the case and seek collaboration from Chinese agencies, according to the news report.
