A 42-year-old man was arrested Thursday, accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy who is congenitally deaf and mute in central Vietnam.
Police found Nguyen Thanh Son, an unemployed drug addict, hiding in Vinh City, Nghe An Province, according to Senior Lieutenant Colonel Mai Chien Thang, Deputy Chief Officer of Vinh police.
On September 16, an employer at the Hoang Anh 1 Hotel in the city found the victim, Nguyen Van Tu, with multiple injuries in a room rent by Son, and reported to the police.
The terrified Tu was admitted to the Nghe An General Hospital with injuries in his head and genital area.
Tu’s mother Tran Thi Giang said Son is their neighbor in Vinh Town and used to take Tu out. He had taken Tu away since August and they could not contact them since then, she said.
After Tu was found, Son texted Giang several times to complain that her family made "too much ado about the case," and promise to support Tu for the rest of his life.
According to Tu’s family, he can eat some porridge but still frightened and yelling out during sleep.
Police are investigating the case.
