Subversive priest resumes jail term in northern Vietnam

A Catholic priest was sent back to prison in the northern province of Ha Nam Monday to resume his eight-year jail term for agitating against the state,Vietnam News Agency reported.


According to the news source, Nguyen Van Ly, 65, was initially sentenced at a trial in March 2007.


The following March, he was allowed to delay his sentence for one year to seek medical treatment at the Archbishop of Hue's Office.


However, during the delay which was extended later, Ly continued to violate regulations by composing and spreading many materials against the government and the Party, inciting people into anti-government demonstrations, and fomenting public disorder, it said.


The news source didn't report further details about Ly's health.
