Three men drowned due to a combination of alcohol and swimming in the central beach town of Da Nang on Sunday and Monday.
On Monday morning rescuers recovered the body of a 45-year-old man, whose name has not been released, near Sao Bien Beach on Vo Nguyen Giap Street.
The man reportedly went to the beach with his family at around 5 a.m., every day, to swim.
On this day, strong waves got the better of him. A group of six rescuers on Sao Bien Beach jumped into the water to save him, but by the time they managed to pull him ashore, he was already dead.
His family said he had drunk beer at home before going to the beach.
One day earlier, two men drowned while taking part in a swimming challenge near Xuan Thieu Beach also in Da Nang.
At around 5 p.m. six men came to the beach to drink beer. Nguyen Dang Giang, 51, challenged Nguyen Son, 22, to compete with him in swimming.
Giang was a one-armed man.
The two then swam in a restricted sea area despite being advised against it by their friends.
Once they had swum around 20 meters offshore, they were swept away by strong waves.
Rescuers found Giang quickly; Son washed ashore later that day.
The rescuers administered first-aid but they had already stopped breathing.
