A depression that was formed on the southeast waters of Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands has developed into a tropical storm, according to the National Hydro-meteorological Forecast Center.
The storm’s center was around 220 kilometers east of the coast of Da Nang-Quang Ngai early Monday morning, the center said, adding the storm is moving at the speed of 10-15 km/hour.
It is forecast to make landfall in Da Nang and Quang Ngai in the next 12-24 hours, with strong winds of up to 75 kilometers/hour.
The storm will then weaken into a depression, according to the center.
As affected by the storm, coastal areas in central provinces from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai will suffer from strong winds and rogue seas, it said.
Two local carriers Vietnam Airlines and Jetstar Pacific said they had to delay or cancel a total of 27 flights due to the storm.
