Storm damages more than 200 houses in southern Vietnam

Rain and strong winds leveled 47 houses and blew the roofs off 178 others in the southern province of Dong Thap on Thursday night.

No injuries were reported, provincial officials said.

Pham Hoang Anh, an official in Thap Muoi District, told Tuoi Tre newspaper that hectares of fruit trees and other trees along the local streets were uprooted by the storm.

Anh said that the district had advanced VND 200 million (around US$ 9,446) to provide timely support to families whose houses were leveled in the disaster.
