Police in Binh Phuoc Province returned a five-month-old baby to his mother, on Sunday night, after he was kidnapped by his father.

Truong Chi Thien was returned to Truong Thi Kim Chua, a 21-year old cashew factory worker who had the child with a married man.

Le Tuan Hung, a 39-year-old father of two other children, kidnapped Thien on June 20, while his mother was at work.

Nguyen Thi Yen, the child's maternal grandmother, told the police that Hung and an accomplice had literally snatched the baby from her arms.

Yen, who is confined to a wheelchair, lives in an unpopulated rural area and there was no one around to help her.

Hung gave the child to a relative of him, more than 100 kilometers away from the mother's house.

Around 20 police officers gathered outside the home and persuaded the father to come out and hand over the baby.

Investigations showed that Thien was the result of an affair between Chua and Hung since 2009.

The couple have been arguing and Chua hasn't allowed the man to visit his child since she gave birth. After the baby was rescued, Hung and Chua agreed to allow the father to visit his son four times a month.

Police are searching for Hung's accomplice in the kidnapping and may hold him responsible for holding a person in custody illegally.
