Authorities in the Mekong Delta's Tien Giang Province have fined 12 local companies nearly US$24,000 in total for pollution, a provincial chief inspector said Monday.
Tran Thanh Ba, chief inspector of Tien Giang Department of Natural Resources and Environment, said the companies were in the seafood processing, plastic, garment and textile, and dangerous waste management sectors.
The companies, which were not named, were among 15 businesses inspected in the province recently.
Some of the punished companies had already been warned many times before, Ba said.
He said the department will continue its efforts to reduce pollution and improve the use of natural resources in the area.
