Ho Chi Minh City police arrested Friday a man who allegedly cut the throat of his father at a hired apartment and then called his mother to inform of the killing.
Ngo Quang Hieu, 26, is being detained while further investigations are ongoing.
On Friday afternoon, Hieu called her mother saying her had killed Ngo Van Hao, his 52-year-old father, at their rent room in Tan Phu District.
The mother called the police. Hieu was arrested later in the afternoon while he was hiding in District 11.
The father was found lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut on his throat at the apartment.
Nearby residents said they heard Hieu and his father quarreling at noon. At around 1 p.m. they saw Hieu leaving.
Hieu usually quarreled with his father,, the mother said, adding he was a drug addict and had some mental issues.
Hieu told the police he was angry after his father rebuked him for using methamphetamine. He beat Hao until Hao fell down. He rushed to the kitchen to pick up a knife and cut Hao's throat.
