A man and a baby were killed on National Highway 1A in central Vietnam early Saturday when their bus driver fell asleep and rammed the bus through an electric pole and into three nearby homes.
Le Dinh Chuc, 51, the bus owner, and 6-month-old passenger Cao Tien Dat, died on the spot in Quang Ngai Province.
The vehicle was carrying 25 passengers from Dak Lak Province in the Central Highlands back home to Quang Ngai and Quang Nam for the Tet Lunar New Year Holiday, which begins Sunday.
Driver Huynh Xuan Huy, a 35-year-old Quang Nam resident, told the police he had lost control of the vehicle because he was drowsy.
The front of a house in Tu Nghia District was damaged, and so were the eaves of two neighboring houses.
Huy and the bus are being detained by Quang Ngai authorities for further investigation.
A power cut caused by damage to the electric pole has also been remedied.
