The body of a six-year-old boy who drowned in a construction site pit that filled up with water in the south central province of Binh Thuan was found Wednesday.
Nguyen Gia Huy, a first grader in the Bac Phan Thiet Primary School in Phan Thiet City, drowned in the one meter wide pit in the yard of his school.
Teachers found his body at around 1:30 p.m. while other pupils in the school were taking a nap.
The pit in which Huy drowned was dug at the construction site of the newly built school.
Huy had been attending the school for just two weeks, the teachers said.
Colonel Nguyen Van Lam, chief of Phan Thiet City Police Department, said Huy's family refused an autopsy on Huy and brought took his body home on Wednesday afternoon.
This is the latest child drowning incident reported in the last few weeks.
Two cases were reported last month in Hanoi and Lao Cai Province. On August 22, four children aged between three and six three of them siblings drowned in a deserted pond in the mountainous province of Lao Cai.
On August 14, two pairs of brothers aged between 11 and 15 drowned in a large construction site pit in Hanoi that had filled up after heavy rains.
