Tien Giang police arrested six robbers on Wednesday when they tried to stop two cars on the Ho Chi Minh City-Trung Luong Expressway to rob the drivers.
The arrestees, aged from 14-22, were caught at around 2 a.m. after they climbed the highway’s fence to stop the cars in Tien Giang’s Chau Thanh District.
Police officers hiding nearby caught the gang in the act.
They said the gang used a long iron bar and wood sticks to stop vehicles and threaten to break the windshield if the drivers refused to give them money.
At the police station, they confessed that they had stopped five cars to rob VND700,000 (US$32) earlier on the same day.
Earlier on May 25, they also robbed VND1.8 million on the highway, which opens only for cars and runs through many quiet areas.
Police are calling for victims of this gang to contact Chau Thanh District police to receive their money back. The phone numbers are (073) 383 1777 and (073) 383 1289.
