Six people were presumed dead after a boat sank in a river in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong on Tuesday.
As of Wednesday evening, rescuers had recovered the bodies of two men named Tran Nguyen Dam, 27, and Phung Quoc Huy, 26, and a 25-year-old woman named Hoang Thi Phuong Nha.
Rescuers are searching for the remaining three victims - Nguyen Hoang Chuyen, Le Trung Thanh and Tran Thi Kim Hang.
The accident happened Tuesday evening on the Krong No River in the district of the same name when a group of 10 employees of Ho Chi Minh City-based Dekalb Vietnam Limited Company hired a boat to get to another district for a field trip.
The wooden boat rowed by Doan The Truyen, a 58-year-old native, was submerged by a swift-flowing current discharged from a hydropower dam when it entered the middle of the river.
Truyen and four passengers were rescued by nearby residents. The remaining six were swept away by waters.
According to local authorities, Truyen is not a professional boatman. The boat was only designed to carry three people at one time.
They also said the boat had been used by Truyen's family to travel on the Krong No River to get to their fields, and there were no life jackets on it at the time of the accident.
