Six people in the southern province of Dong Nai have been detained for their alleged involvement in a ring selling cooking gas under local famous brand names, the Tuoi Tre newspaper reported Thursday.

Initial information is that Dang Gia Tuong, director of Gas Viet Company, together with subordinates Tran Ngoc Long, a manager, and Dang Thi Thuong Huyen, an accountant, were illegally filling gas cylinders and faking the labels of famous brands to sell them at Dong Nai, Binh Duong province, and Ho Chi Minh City.

The same scheme was carred out by the Xuan Hang Gas Company run by Nguyen Thanh Hai, the report said, citing police information, Hai was perpetrating the scheme along with Luu Van Ngoc, the company's manager, and Le Van Thin, Hai's distributor.

Last week, provincial police raided the two businesses and confiscated over 20 tons of gas and thousands of cylinders. They also arrested 27 suspects.

The case is being investigated further.
