A 63-year old Singaporean man confessed to police Wednesday that he set a rented house in Ho Chi Minh City on fire the previous day out of jealousy.
Lee Choong Hian said he had been living with Juan Fan Chiung, a Taiwanese woman, for four years without a marriage license.
Suspecting Chiung of being unfaithful, he used gasoline to set the three-story house on fire early Tuesday morning.
Chiung, 30, had to jump down from the second floor to escape the fire.
Hian and Ly Van Thao, a 17 year-old Vietnamese housekeeper, were rescued by local firefighters after the fire was put out.
All of them have recovered from minor injuries.
The Nguoi Lao Dong (Laborer) newspaper reported that one car and two motorcycles were destroyed in the fire.
Police said they were investigating the case further.
