A man was killed in a shoot-and-run incident in the central province of Nghe An Monday night for reasons as yet unknown to police.
Police said Le Ba Thang, 28, was shot in the back by five men on motorbikes while watching card games on the sidewalk in Vinh, the capital city of the province.
Thang was rushed to hospital but died on the way, sometime after 9 p.m.
Eyewitnesses said the killers fired a shot upwards into the sky before they all left.
Police are further investigating the case.
Lately, guns have been involved in solving conflicts between young men in Vietnam, particularly in Vinh. On many occasions, they fire shots and flee the scene in public places during the day. Some gangs use guns to scare people and show power over their counterparts.
