More than 10,000 workers walked off the job to protest low salaries and lousy meals at a Taiwanese shoe company in the southern province of Dong Nai Friday.

The workers threw mam tom (shrimp paste) and pig's blood pudding on other Pouchen Vietnam workers for not joining the strike.

Meals the company supplies are made for only VND4,000, Tuoi Tre newspaper said, quoting the workers. The newspaper did not mention their wages.

Pouchen Vietnam's management board said that they would raise the salary by 5 percent but the workers disagreed and continued the strike.
