One worker was killed and four others injured in an explosion Friday inside a ship which is being built at a shipyard in the northern Vietnamese city of Hai Phong.
According to Nguyen Anh Tai, vice director of Bach Dang Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, the explosion took place in a container which had some 20 cubic meters of dirty water and oil at the bottom of the 17,500-ton ship's stern.
Nguyen Van Thanh, 22, working nearby, was killed on the spot while others were hospitalized with burns and other injuries.
Tai said the company was waiting for agencies' conclusions on the cause of the incident, adding that it happened when the ship was nearing completion.
There was no information available about the accident, including the extent of damage caused to the ship.
Bach Dang Corporation is a member company of the state-owned Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin).
