Police in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu on Monday proposed prosecutors charge seven people with "illegally keeping, using military weapons," and "extorting others' properties," VnExpress reported.
Thach Quang, 43, the leader of a gang, with two of his members, Nguyen Nguyen, 44, and Ly Sa Phal, 36, has threatened locals with guns and other weapons many times to extort money from them, according to police findings.
Meanwhile, four other gang members collected guns and either sold or gave them to Quang, the newspaper quoted police as saying.
Police said they busted the gang in May after being alerted by locals. Raids on Quang's residence and work, as well as on his accomplices' properties, yielded four guns, a grenade, hundreds of bullets, and many knives and hammers.
