The chief prosecutor of a district in Kon Tum Province fled accident scenes after a government car that he was in caused multiple crashes on Friday.
Police said the car, which caused at least four crashes over nearly 30 kilometers and left several people injured in the Central Highlands province on Friday afternoon, belongs to Tu Mo Rong District’s prosecution unit.
A source from Kon Tum police said Tran Quang Hung, head of the unit, was driving the car. They said he was driving under the influence.
The source said he had hidden in a local house for hours before coming out to talk to police that night, saying that he had drunk some beer.
A traffic police officer said they started chasing the car at about 3.30 p.m. after it was “speeding and swirling” and hit two motorbikes on a national highway.
The car did not stop. It continued to run a red light and crash into different other vehicles. At least three victims from the crashes have been sent to Kon Tum General Hospital with multiple injuries.
