Police in Dak Lak Province on Monday (February 25) arrested a ninth-grader for allegedly stabbing a schoolmate to death, Tien Phong newspaper reported on the same day.

Students from Nguyen Hue Secondary School in Krong Buk District told the newspaper that Nguyen Thanh Dat, 15, had a severe personal conflict with Tran Xuan Dung, 15, before the incident which left the latter dead on Monday morning. Reportedly, Dat usually brought a knife with him to school.

Dat said he used it to "peel fruit," according to the school's students.

The source of the boys' conflict remains unclear.

The stabbing happened in front of Dat's classroom. Witnesses said they first had a verbal argument and then a fight ensued. Dung was stabbed in the back and collapsed.

Teachers rushed Dung to the hospital but he died on the way, as the knife had punctured his heart, according to Tien Phong.

Last April, the Dak Lak People's Court sentenced Le Khac Duy, 18, to six and a half years in jail for his killing his classmate due to personal conflicts when he was a ninth-grader at Chu Quynh Secondary School in Cu Kuin District, according to the website of the Vietnam Supreme People's Court.

Duy and Pham Duc Toan were fighting and the latter continually attacked and challenged the former, when the former stabbed the latter with a knife three to four times in the chest, puncturing his heart and killing him.
