Seasonal flooding kills 24 in Mekong Delta

Recent floods in the Mekong Delta have killed 24 people, of which 21 are children, the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control announced Sunday.

The committee said the worst seasonal flooding in more than a decade also left six people injured, VnExpress reported.

The floods have damaged more than 1,500 houses and inundated thousands of houses and schools, forcing over 230,000 students to drop classes.

It is estimated that the floods have caused a loss of VND950 billion (US$45.6 million).

According to the National Center for Hydrometeorological  Forecasting, more floods will continue to hit the Mekong Delta until the end of this month.
