A 15-year-old schoolgirl who killed a classmate with a knife and severely injured another gave herself up to Hanoi police late Wednesday, online newspaper VnExpress reported.
Police in My Duc District said Le Thi Ha Trang, a ninth grader at Dong Tam Secondary School, came to a police station to confess to the killing of her classmate after being persuaded to do so by her family.
At around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Trang reportedly asked Pham Thi Ngoc Anh and Tran Thi Hoai to come out of the class to talk to her.
The three soon began to fight and Trang pulled a knife from her schoolbag before stabbing Hoai in the chest and Anh in the stomach. She fled the scene immediately after.
Hoai was rushed to hospital but died on arrival due to massive blood loss. Anh is undergoing treatment.
After the murder, Trang fled the scene but gave herself up later that day.
Trang told police she was fighting with the two girls because they had said bad things about her behind her back.
According to the school management board, Trang, Anh, Hoai and another schoolgirl had a fistfight fight last August.
The board had summoned the girls for questioning and they had promised to bury the hatchet.
Trang's teachers said she was not a rule-abiding studnet and had been previously temporarily suspended for fighting.
